Qassam (aka Kassam, Kassem) Rocket Facts
Hamas production of the shorter range Qassam rocket began in September 2001.

Have been manufactured and deployed primarily from the Gaza Strip although Israeli Defense Forces have seized rockets in the West Bank.

Cylindrical in shape, it contains a small warhead on its tip.

Fueled by mixture of SUGAR and POTASSIUM NITRATE, which is a widely available fertilizer. The warhead is filled with TNT and urea nitrate.

Contains four small stabilizing wings on one end, a middle section containing the engine, and an attached warhead with a detonating fuse on the other end.

Constructed from iron approximately 2.5-3mm thick.
Range of 40 kilometers (approx. 25 miles)
